How to save open tabs in Mozilla: tips and tricks. How to save open browser tabs

Yeah, yeah, yeah, visitors to my project using Mozilla FireFox, and especially the readers of my good old cycle on improving this browser (part 2, part 3,), ask me about how to make memorization of past sessions (tabs and open sites) in the puzzle, like in the Opera and is it even possible?

It's time to tell you about it;) Drum roll and ... Let's go.

Session Manager is a useful extension for Firefox

This is the name of this wonderful plugin, and it does exactly what it saves and restores the state of all windows after exiting and at the time of entering the browser. Those who are familiar with the opera know what it is about, the rest just need to install this plugin and try it. Also Session Manager allows you to recover accidentally closed windows and tabs.

Installation:

  • Click on the button “ Add to FireFox“(Add to FireFox)
  • Install
  • Restart FireFox
  • Installation completed.

Customization:

Launch the browser.
We choose: Instruments - Session manager - Session manager settings.

The very minimum of settings is to set everything as in the screenshot below:

Otherwise, you can leave the settings as they are or set them at your discretion.
Done, now when you exit the browser, the plugin remembers all your sessions and automatically restores them when you start the browser again.
You can also create and save specific sessions, i.e. open tabs with a specific set of sites, save this session and then call it at your own discretion or automatically when you start the browser. To do this, open the sites you need in the tabs, then select Session manager - Save session... To load a saved session select Session manager - Load Session.
By the way, after the restoration of the sessions, they remain in the same form as they were at the time of saving, even if the site was updated, and therefore I recommend setting the item " Refresh all restored windows", which lives in the plugin settings on the tab Save \ restore.

FoxTab is another useful Firefox extension

In addition to this, I would like to tell you about a plugin that makes switching between tabs clearer, nicer and more convenient. What does it look like? Very simple, some custom interactivity is added. For example? See screenshots:

Do you want to know and be able to do more yourself?

We offer you training in the following areas: computers, programs, administration, servers, networks, site building, SEO and more. Find out the details now!

Etc...
I must say that everything is done very beautifully and flexibly configurable - you can choose a background, the number of columns and rows, 3D angle of display of all this case, etc. and so on.

It works very simply:

  • or you set up the change of bookmarks on the key combination (for me it is CTRL + scrolling of the mouse wheel) and when using it you switch between the bookmarks easily and visually choosing the desired one
  • or you press the key combination (say CTRL + Q), this entire visual list pops up in front of you and you can open the desired tab by clicking the mouse (to make it clearer: in the first case, the visual display disappears as soon as you release the combination of buttons, in the second it hangs until select a bookmark)

In addition to the fact that everything looks clear, it has also become more convenient and faster to switch between tabs using the customizable keyboard shortcuts mentioned above.
In general, I highly recommend it because it is beautiful, fast and convenient :)

Installation:

  • To install the addon, go to its page, namely here.
  • Click on the button “ Add to FireFox“(Add to FireFox)
  • In the pop-up window, wait three seconds and press the button “ Install
  • After completing the installation, press the button “ Restart FireFox”Or restart the browser manually.
  • Installation completed.

Customization:

We open the browser.
And either click on the blue squares near the close button and the address line, and then click on the settings button in the lower left corner.
Or we poke at: Instruments - Add-ons - - Settings and customize.

There are no specifically important settings - customize to your taste;)

Afterword

Something like that.
Enjoy.
Everything is for you.
Because you are the best!
.. which means everything will be fine;)

Hello dear friends!

Did you know that all open tabs can be saved when the browser is closed? It turns out that one of my acquaintances did not know about this and in order to save the tabs, he simply turned off the computer hard by holding the power button for a few seconds. What for? Because, then Firefox told him that his work was completed incorrectly and offered to restore the tabs of the last session!

I was surprised to the very tips of my ears and decided to write an article on this topic. I will show you how to save your current tabs so that when you close the browser and then open it, they are completely restored. The instruction will be for browsers Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Edge... I will also say a couple of affectionate ones about Internet Explorer at the end of the article.

Let's start with Mozilla Firefox

How do I restore tabs when I close Firefox?

Go to Settings, as shown in the screenshot.

Select the settings item The main in the left menu. Then we look at the value of the parameter " When Firefox starts "... By default, this is usually set to Show Home Page. Change it to " Show windows and tabs last opened". Changes are applied immediately, without pressing the 'ok' or 'apply' buttons. To check - close the browser and then open it again. All tabs should be restored from the last session.

How do I restore tabs when I close Chrome?

Press the three horizontal sticks in the upper right corner, click on the Settings item.

Settings opens. Next, we are looking for the item " Open on startup"And put in the position" Previously opened tabs". Changes are also applied immediately. To test, close Chromium with multiple tabs, then reopen.

How to restore tabs in Opera browser?

Press the upper left Opera button and select Settings from the menu (you can press the Alt + P key combination).

In the Basic settings section, set the "At startup" parameter to the " Continue from the same place". Changes are applied immediately.

How do I restore open tabs in Edge?

The new browser from Microsoft also has the ability to save previously opened tabs at startup, which we will use. To customize it, click on the three dots in the upper right and select Options.

In the Parameters, the subsection "Open with" is almost the first in the list, in which we set the switch to the position " Previous Pages". Again, the changes take effect immediately. You can close the parameters by pressing Esc or by pressing the three dots again.

But Edge will still ask you when you close it, do you really want to close them? In my opinion, illogical behavior. If I chose to restore the previous session, then why should the browser ask me to close all tabs? After all, he will restore them all the next time you start. Check the box "Always close all tabs" when you get tired of this window :)

How to keep open tabs in IE?

Joke, but only half)

In fact, Internet Explorer does not know how to automatically restore the previous session, it does not have such a setting. But you can restore the previous session manually and now I will show you where this option is hiding.

Let's say you closed IE for the last time with five tabs. Open it and see one home page. What to do? There are two ways:

Method number 1. Through a new tab

Open a new tab using Ctrl + T or with the mouse:

Now, in a new tab, look down and find the link “ Reopen the last session«.

Method number 2. Through the menu

Go to the menu Service, choose ““. And a miracle happens, the tabs open :)

Note: if the menu bar is not displayed, then you can enable it on a permanent basis or call it only when necessary.

To make the menu bar permanently visible - right-click on an empty space on the top IE bar and check the box next to the "Menu bar" item (see screenshot)

If you, for example, do not want to see the menu all the time to save space, then just press the left Alt key and the menu will pop up. Then again go to Service -> Reopening the last browsing session.

Recovering tabs may not be the best idea if there are a lot of them open. But in this case, it is already worth thinking about your own efficiency when working. After all, saving all open sites when you close your browser is just a tool that can both speed up your work and slow it down.

Do you keep your open tabs?

Most often, when opening a browser, users see a blank start page or a tab with the most visited sites. But some people don't know that you can continue your online work from the same place where you left it last time. So that you do not have to manually enter the addresses of the sites that were last closed or search for them in the browsing history, we suggest that you familiarize yourself with the simplest ways to make Internet surfing easier and more convenient.

Google Crome

So that the next time you open your browser, the last loaded pages appear, you need to perform a few simple manipulations.

First you need to go to your browser settings. To do this, you will have to click on the button in the form of three horizontal stripes and select the "Settings" item there. Then, in the settings tab that opens, you need to find the category "Open at startup". By default, the "New Tab" item is checked there. To make changes, check the "Previously open tabs" item.

Opera

In the Opera browser, making it so that each time you launch the browser, previously opened tabs are opened, too, is not so difficult. Here you also need to go to the browser settings, find the category "At startup" and mark "Continue from the same place."

Mozilla Firefox

Here you need to go to the browser menu through an icon that looks the same as in Chrome (3 horizontal stripes in the upper right corner of the web browser). There, select the "Settings" category. In the very first category, which is called "General", you need to find the item where it says "When Firefox starts." Next to it there is a line with the ability to select the required sub-item. By clicking on it, the user will see 3 available options, from which you need to select "Show windows and tabs opened last time."

Yandex browser

In this browser, you need to perform the same manipulations as in Chrome. First, go to the web browser settings and look for the "Where to start?" Column. There it is necessary to mark the item "Restore the tabs opened last time".

Safari

Apple's browser, however, like all subsequent web browsers, requires users to perform more complex manipulations than in previous browsers. In Safari, the ability to open previously downloaded tabs is hidden in the settings, so the first thing the user needs to do is go to the system settings. This category is located in the upper left corner of the browser window. In the settings, you must select the "General" section. Here, by default, there is a check mark next to the line "Close windows on program shutdown". The selection from this item must be removed by clicking on it. After that, the user needs to pay attention to the item located slightly below. There the browser offers to select the maximum number of objects to save. If a person specifies in it, for example, 5, then the web browser will be able to "remember" only the last 5 tabs.

Internet Explorer

In the upper right corner of the web browser window there is an icon that looks like a gear. When clicking on it, the user enters the settings menu. There you need to select the "Internet Options" category. Then a new window will open where you need to find the "General" tab, and then find the line "Startup". Here it is necessary to check the item "Start with the tabs opened in the previous session."

Microsoft Edge

Although this is a new columnist, which has not yet gained great popularity, we still decided to tell about it. In Microsoft Edge, you also need to go to the menu, which is hidden under the button in the form of three dots. There it is already necessary to select the "Settings" category. In the window that opens, you should pay attention to the side panel and find the "Open with" item there. All available options are listed below it. There it is necessary to mark the sub-item "Previous pages".

Almost every computer or laptop user knows that the Windows operating system (whatever version it is) will sooner or later "be asked" to reinstall. Someone reinstalls the system every three months, while others manage to work in Windows for about three or four years. It already depends on the level of knowledge of the computer user. But still, you will have to reinstall the operating system sooner or later. During the work in the system, namely in the Mozilla Firefox browser, many useful bookmarks are collected, which, of course, are not saved when the system is reinstalled and a clean browser is installed. Agree, the loss of all the baggage of Mozilla Firefox browser bookmarks is unlikely to please anyone. However, you shouldn't worry. The developers of "ogelis" have already worried about this.

Save bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox can be done in several ways. You can, of course, use the special Mozilla Backup utility, with which you can save and restore not only bookmarks, but also passwords, settings, themes, history and add-ons. However, I will tell you about this utility in another article. This time we will use the built-in bookmark saving algorithm, which allows you to save browser bookmarks to an HTML file. You can store this file anywhere: on a USB flash drive, on another local disk. The main thing is that at any time from this file you can restore your previously saved Mozilla Firefox bookmarks. Now let's look at an example, how to save bookmarks Mozilla Firefox.

How to save bookmarks Mozilla Firefox

First, let's launch the browser and make sure we have bookmarks. In my case, I got five regular bookmarks and two bookmarks, which I placed in a folder called "Bookmarks for work".

Now let's open the browser library, where all bookmarks, event log, downloads and tags are stored. To do this, select Show All Bookmarks from the Downloads menu. "Library" should open in a new window.

Now we will save our bookmarks to a file so that in the future we will be able to restore them. To do this, in the menu item "Import and backup copies" select "Export bookmarks to HTML file".

Another window will open, in which you must specify the path to save the file and its name. For the experiment, I chose "Desktop" as the path to save the file, and named the file like this: "Bookmarks Mozilla Firefox 07/17/2013". To complete the operation of saving bookmarks, click the "Save" button.

Now you know how to save Mozilla Firefox bookmarks. Agree, you can't think of anything easier. The main thing is not to accidentally delete it.

How to restore Mozilla Firefox bookmarks

I'll show you now how to restore Mozilla Firefox bookmarks... Although you probably already guessed it yourself. First, I'll delete all the bookmarks I created earlier. Just right-click on the bookmark and select the "Delete" menu item.

This is what I did with all the bookmarks. And now my browser looks like this.

To restore browser bookmarks, open the "Library" again, where in the menu item "Import and backup copies" you must select "Import bookmarks from HTML file".

In the window that opens, we need to select the HTML file that we previously created. To do this, select it with one click with the left mouse button and click the "Open" button or double-click the left mouse button on the file with bookmarks.

You will see the bookmarks appear.

Now it remains only to transfer them to the bookmarks panel. To do this, select all imported bookmarks and drag them to the "Bookmarks Bar". You can select bookmarks as follows: having selected the first bookmark with one click of the left mouse button, hold down the "Shift" key on the keyboard and click once with the left mouse button on the last bookmark. All bookmarks selected should be highlighted in blue. And now, holding down the left mouse button on the selected bookmarks, drag the mouse cursor to the "Bookmarks Bar".

The bookmarks should immediately appear in the bookmarks bar. Very fast and easy, isn't it? Now, if you have a question on how to save and restore Mozilla Firefox bookmarks, you know how to find the answer. I wish you success in mastering your computer and browser. If you have any questions, ask me using the comments form. Be familiar with the computer!
